It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the peak baggers, are all that remain for a squad that has won it all.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not come up short.

If this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Some will argue the argument supporting final game tension. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this knock was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it's been a disappointing period because I feel like I've had no rhythm whatsoever," commented Healy.

"But once you take the field, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from there Healy was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

Once she was removed Australia needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the confidence to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the final thing rival teams at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is expected to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
